Collecting Family - Seattle, US

Building a collection for a busy family.

Collection Strategy Art Sourcing & Acquisition Collection Management

Context

With demanding professional lives and a young family, the clients wanted to build a private collection but had little time to engage with the art world themselves. They were looking for artworks they would enjoy living with every day in their family home, while creating a collection that could grow alongside their children and become part of their family's story.

Our role

We developed a collecting strategy around the family's interests, lifestyle and long-term ambitions. Working on their behalf, we attended international art fairs, visited galleries and monitored the market, securing early access to works that reflect their taste and the direction of the collection.

We advised on acquisitions, represented the clients at auction, conducted due diligence and negotiated purchases. We also oversee the practicalities of each acquisition, including shipping, insurance, customs, installation and collection management, from the first recommendation to the artwork hanging in the family home.

Outcome

The family has begun building a collection that is enjoyed every day in their home. Through ongoing representation, early access and end-to-end management of acquisitions, they are able to build their collection without having to navigate the complexities of the art world themselves. The collection continues to evolve as a reflection of the family's interests, experiences and values, creating a lasting legacy to be enjoyed across generations.
